The +Action Steering Committee
The +Action Steering Committee is Positive Action’s longest-running group. It has been meeting regularly since October 2003. The Steering Committee meets one Thursday evening per month from 6:00-7:30 at The Center and is organized and facilitated by the Program Coordinator. It is a drop-in style group, meaning there is no obligation on the part of participants to come to every meeting, and people can join or leave the group at will. The purpose of the Steering Committee is to guide the program’s activities. Group members make recommendations, suggest activities, act as a sounding board for new ideas, and provide a consumers’ perspective on appropriate service delivery. Agenda items are generally flexible, and impromptu discussions of a variety of issues is common. The Steering Committee is not a traditional ‘support group’ but often serves the same function. Members are encouraged to share information on upcoming events and services that may be of interest to others. The Steering Committee is also a working/planning group, and in the past members have provided a great deal of time, energy and insight to the +Action program. This includes: developing the +Action name and logo, planning and executing Poz Seminar Weekend 2004, guiding the development of Social Marketing messages and materials, and promoting +Action services and events in the community.
